Description Sir Ian (66) joined BP?s board in 1997 and was appointed non-executive deputy chairman in 1999. He is the senior independent director. In 2003, he retired as chairman of InterContinental Hotels Group PLC, a spin-off from the former Bass PLC where he was chief executive. He is a non-executive director of the Sara Lee Corporation and non-executive chairman of The Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes (NAAFI).
